About David Toy:

In the Beginning: David was born in 1942 and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. By age sixteen, he was performing in East St. Louis nightclubs as a guitarist and pianist. After a stint in the Air Force, (ours)  he appeared on stage with such notables as Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, B. B. King, Bill Justice and Ike & Tina Turner. In 1966, David took up the Hammond B-3 organ and, with the aid of an electronic percussion machine, entertained in nightclubs and hotels throughout the United States, performing solo. In the mid seventies, David operated two boats out of Naples, Florida during the stone crab season, announced evenings on a local radio station and entertained nights in area hotels and clubs.

Paradise Found: In 1978 and 1979, David lived on Grand Cayman Island, located in the British West Indies. During the day, he worked out of the Sea View Hotel as a scuba dive master, instructor and underwater guide, thrilling visiting divers by hand-feeding fish he speared to Waldo, the huge green moray eel who had taken up residence in the waters off Sunset House Hotel. In the evenings, he performed his solo act, to which he added fire-eating and dancing barefooted on broken glass, in the lounge of the Galleon Beach Hotel on Grand Cayman's posh Seven-Mile Beach.

Life in the Shadow of the Mouse & Duck Farm: David moved to Orlando, Florida in 1980 where he was employed as the house comic at an elegant four-hundred seat burlesque club for several years. When times were tough, he worked part-time as a floor bouncer in a topless go-go bar where he kept boisterous customers in line, more often with his sense of humor and imposing 6' 5" stature than by actual force. These were jobs and not a lifestyle. He played guitar and keyboards at the Winter Park Christian Church and, to the delight of his mother, filled the pulpit for Pastor Bill Underwood during the pastor's vacation one year. Many songs that David wrote were included in the church hymnal and the National Literary Foundation published his poem: "Mother Ocean." He is a licensed real estate broker and instructor.

The Lord Smiled upon Him: In 1993, while bumming around by himself on a scuba dive outing in Mindanao, located in the southern region of the Philippines, he swam with highly venomous sea snakes, climbed Mount Hibok-Hibok, a live volcano on Camiguin Island, and, more importantly, met and married the love of his life, Miss Deselma "Bing" Cabingas. (Pronounced "Ca-bing-gus," not "Cabin-gas" as David admits to saying when he first saw the name.) Their union was blessed with a son, Mark David Toy, born in 1994. (Made in the Philippines, - born in Orlando.)

Calamity Strikes: On December 17th, 2002 the Toy's family home in Florida was destroyed by fire, leaving them with only the clothes on their backs. However, a far worse tragedy lay in store; on December 21st, David's dear, cherished and adored mother, Ruth Hampton, died of smoke inhalation. For the next year, David and his life-long friend, Ed Boehmer, worked rebuilding the home; they, (David, Bing, Mark, Ed and Tessie, Bing's niece and now Ed's wife,) moved back in on December 17th, 2003. A few months later, Ed passed away in the family home he had worked so hard to help rebuild.

Worthy of Mention: Shortly after the motion picture: "First Blood" was released, David wrote a sequel to it titled: "Honor to my Unit." The executive producer of First Blood, Andrew Vanja, read and liked it. For a time, it looked as thought David's sequel might become First Blood II but, Mr. Stallone completed his own part two and that ended that.

His Promise to You: "I will never write anything that is not thoroughly researched and absolutely accurate in every factual aspect and that I have not put my whole heart and soul into creating. If I do not feel it is perfect; you will never see it!"

His Goals: David wants to live in an island setting near his beloved ocean, be the best husband and father he can be and write wonder books, screenplays and music. And, God willing, -- he shall.
